Un francese a Modena

Ciao! Sono Yoan Wojcika, conosciuto anche come Invictus, e vivo nel nord-est della Francia. Sono un arbitro per la FEQ (la federazione francese di W40K), ma anche un giocatore e un tournament organizer. Sono nell'hobby da 26 lunghi anni per i quali devo ringraziare mio zio e i miei cugini che, una notte di Natale molto tempo fa, mi regalarono una scatola di Space Crusade. È da allora che non ho più smesso!

Gioco a livello competitivo da circa dieci anni e ho iniziato ad organizzare tornei nel 2019 - non il momento migliore per il lancio di questa nuova carriera. Durante la pandemia mi sono unito al corpo arbitrale della FEQ e al suo consiglio di amministrazione per contribuire alla ricostruzione della nostra lega nazionale a squadre, cercando così di essere una parte ancora più attiva della comunità. Da allora mi occupo di molte attività, come il reclutamento e la formazione di nuovi giudici nella mia regione o l'assistenza agli organizzatori nella creazione dei loro eventi.

Nutro un profondo attaccamento all’hobby e alla sua scena competitiva. Mi piace incontrare giocatori e comunità differenti, in Francia come fuori, partecipando agli eventi internazionali e imparando da ambienti così diversi e aiutare quante più persone possibile a divertirsi con il gioco. Warhammer è un gioco molto profondo e la sua comunità è la più grande ricchezza che ha da offrire: è questa ciò che mi guida e mi permette di apprezzare il lavoro che faccio.

La mia esperienza ai WTC Italian Trials

Ho conosciuto Orfeo sul campo, arbitrando con lui sia il Warmaster che il Team Event di WTC (World Team Championship). Abbiamo lavorato con l'intero team di arbitri ed organizzatori per costruire la migliore esperienza di gioco possibile e, in retrospettiva, direi che ci siamo riusciti! Da questa avventura è nato rispetto reciproco e un'amicizia che mi ha portato a essere invitato a far parte del team arbitrale del WTC Italian Trial di quest'anno.

Attraversando in treno le Alpi svizzere e l'Italia settentrionale alla volta di Modena ho sentito l'impazienza crescere ed ardere: non vedevo l’ora di incontrare la comunità italiana - dalla quale non sono stato affatto deluso!
Tutti sono stati accoglienti con me ed il mio accento discutibile. La comunicazione è proceduta senza intoppi perché tutti parlavano bene l'inglese e, con mia grande sorpresa, anche il francese! Non mi sono mai sentito uno straniero durante questo fine settimana, venendo rapidamente incluso nelle discussioni e negli scherzi, godendo delle divertenti serate al ristorante e di un generale senso di ospitalità. gesti, questi, in cui ho riconosciuto il proverbiale calore del popolo italiano!

Anche l'esperienza arbitrale è stata molto piacevole. Tutti, dai giocatori agli allenatori, hanno interagito con me frequentemente e cordialmente. Oltre a questo Orfeo e Andrea mi hanno completamente assorbito nei ranghi e ho apprezzato molto lavorare al loro fianco durante l’evento. Con entrambi ho condiviso la filosofia del supportare i giocatori e l'evento in generale per assicurare una equa e soddisfacente competizione; ci siamo da subito trovati e abbiamo collaborato con grande naturalezza. Spero di poter arbitrare di nuovo al loro fianco in futuro, che sia in Italia, Francia o altrove! Voglio ringraziarli ancora una volta per tutto il loro lavoro e per la fiducia che mi hanno dimostrato e che ha significato molto.

In retrospettiva ho apprezzato il fairplay generale che ho visto in sala, l'atteggiamento competitivo ma amichevole mostrato da tutti i giocatori e l'attenzione che lo staff mi ha riservato. Non vedo l'ora di vedere come crescerà la comunità italiana e come si svilupperà la LAW in futuro!

La grandezza della cooperazione internazionale

Concludo l’articolo dicendo che questo evento è stato un grande esempio di cooperazione internazionale, che ha riunito i giudici italiani e francesi grazie a un campionato mondiale a squadre ospitato in Belgio alcuni mesi prima. Incarna ciò che amo profondamente nell'aspetto comunitario del nostro hobby: molte persone di varie origini o paesi che condividono la stessa passione e gli stessi obbiettivi.

Sono convinto che possiamo imparare l'uno dall'altro e crescere come persone, come giudici e come comunità anche e soprattutto attraverso questi scambi. Grazie al lavoro di Orfeo e Andrea adesso so che arbitri e giocatori francesi possono partecipare agli eventi italiani e sentirsi a casa, che verranno accolti con calore e che sfideranno validi avversari!

  Who am I, and where did I came from ?

  Hi ! I’m Yoan WOJCIKA, also known as Invictus, and I’m living in the north-east of France. I’m mainly a judge from the FEQ, the French federation of W40K, but a player an a TO too! I’m in the hobby since almost 26 years now, thanks to my uncle and cousins that offered me a Space Crusade box at a Christmas night long ago… Never stopped since!

  I have been playing competitively since roughly ten years ago and I started organizing tournaments in 2019 (not the great period to begin). During the pandemic, I joined the judge corps of the FEQ and its board of directors to participate in the rebuilding of our national competitive team league and to be an even more active part of our community. I’m since in charge of a lot of missions, like the recruitment and training of new judges in my region or the assistance of TOs in the creation of events.

  I have a deep attachment for our shared passion and its competitive scene, as I love to meet a lot of players and different communities across the country and at international events, to learn from such diverse environments and to help as many people as possible to enjoy the game. I would say that W40K is an indeed very rich game, but that its whole community is even richer and that’s what give me purpose and pleasure in my activities.

  My experience at the WTC Italian Trials

  I met Orfeo as we were both judges for the 2024 Warmaster and WTC team event. We worked together and with the whole judge team to build the best player experience possible and I would say that we succeeded and survived the ordeal. From this adventure grew a mutual respect and a friendship, one that led to my invitation to join the judge team of this year WTC Trials.

  As I crossed the Swiss Alps and the northern Italy by train to finally reach Modena rosed the impatience to meet the Italian community and I was not disappointed at all ! Everybody was very welcoming to me and my dubious accent. The communication went smoothly as everybody either spoke good English with me or, as a good surprise, even French! I didn’t felt like a foreigner during this weekend as I was quickly included in discussions, jokes, evenings trips to restaurants and a general sense of hospitality. For that, I recognize the famous warmth and good vibes of Italian people!

  The judging experience was also very pleasant, as every player and coach interacted with me in the best possible way and as often as needed. Moreover, Orfeo and Andrea completely integrated me as a fellow judge and I greatly appreciated to work with them during this event, as I shared their philosophy to support the players and the event to assure a good and fair experience for everybody. The team dynamic felt natural and efficient and I sure hope to judge with them at future events, in Italy, France or somewhere else! I want to thank them again for all their work and for the trust they showed, because it means a lot to me.

  In retrospect, I salute the overall fairplay that I saw in each games, the competitive but friendly attitude showed by all players and the care provided by the staff for myself. I can’t wait to see how the Italian community will grow and how the LAW will develop themselves in the future!

  The greatness of international cooperation

  I will conclude this article by saying that this event was a great example of international cooperation, as it brought Italian judges and a French one together thanks to a world team championship hosted in Belgium several months prior. It embodies what I deeply love in the community aspect of our hobby: multiples peoples from various origins or countries that share the same passion and the same goal.

  I am convinced that we can learn from each other and grow as people, as judges, as judges structures and as communities with this kind of exchange. Thanks to the work of Orfeo and Andrea, I know now that players or judges from France can participate to Italian events and feel at home, welcomed by great peoples and challenged by good players!
